Often, the lack of a solid marketing plan leads to disappointment.

GOAL #1 - I will know my target audience

While you may have clients from various backgrounds, your target audience is the intended recipients of your message. To identify your target audience, ask yourself: Whom am I trying to reach? What are their needs? What are their fears? What gives them joy? What are their preferences? With these considerations in mind, you'll finally nail your target audience!

GOAL #2 - I will develop my brand

You had a solid logo. Great! But did you know your brand is WAY more than just your logo? Beyond taglines, font choices, and mission statements, your brand identity is how you present yourself to the public. Developing your brand will directly impact your reputation.

GOAL #3 - I will develop a strong presence

We all know the importance of having a website, but your website is just a start for marketing. Your presence is not simply a set-it-and-forget-it account. Instead, you want to ensure you regularly update your website, engage with others through social media platforms, and find ways to promote yourself and your services to your local community. Establishing yourself online and in your community takes you from an advisor business listing to a well-known and trusted advisor.

GOAL #4 - I will build/join a community

There truly is strength in numbers, so this is your chance to use the power of networking! Where does your target audience hang out? Are they most often on one particular social media platform? Is there a local meetup you can attend? Whether online or attending in-person events, engaging with like-minded advisors and your target audience affords you more opportunities to build and strengthen a great sense of community.

GOAL #5 - I will be professional AND personal

We understand the struggle of wanting to be professional without coming across as a clingy salesperson. How do you show you're an advisor to trust? Show off your personality. You can still be professional, all while being personable by sharing personal stories. This proves you are on the same level as your audience, which builds trust and lasting relationships.

GOAL #6 - I will define my message

Whenever you think about marketing, your first thought should be, "What do I want my audience to do after hearing this?" Having a clear, concise message helps you narrow your focus to what your primary goal is with marketing.

GOAL #7 - I will make a marketing campaign

Hooray, you're ready to take on marketing! But now is the time to create a specific plan for your campaign. After identifying your message and target audience, remember to have a particular goal in mind. You can start off with a small goal, such as a goal to set up one meeting a week with someone from your target audience, proving that working with you is easy and essential to their financial well-being.

GOAL #8 - I will create a marketing budget

You've got a plan, so why not invest in yourself? When creating a marketing campaign, you'll want to decide how much you are willing to fund to reach your goal. This includes finances AND your time!

GOAL #9 - I will pick the right platforms

Here's a marketing secret. Are you ready? You do not have to be on ALL social media platforms. Remember your target audience? Where they spend their time online is where you'll want to be. If your prospects are visiting one platform, focus on that one. You don't need to spread your efforts too thin trying to be everywhere all at once.

GOAL #10 - I will be consistent

Have you found yourself in a cycle of rapidly posting every day, only to run out of content ideas in less than a week? Yep, burnout is real, especially when you're busy focusing on being a financial advisor. Regarding marketing consistency, be honest about the amount of time and dedication you can give. (Here's that reminder to budget your time again!) If you determine you can commit to posting content Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, you're on the right track! If you are consistent, you don't have to feel obligated to post daily.

GOAL #11 - I will give back

Looking for another way to develop your brand identity? Don't forget to give back! Whether you provide a free downable resource or use your platform to promote a nonprofit organization, you can show your target audience that you are authentic and willing to prioritize relationships.

GOAL #12 - I will track my progress and goals

This is the exciting part of marketing! By tracking your progress, you will be able to determine what marketing goals work for you and those which maybe aren't right for you. Celebrate every success and keep at it!

By now, you can warm up to taking on these marketing goals to set yourself up for success. You can start with one or two monthly goals and work through all twelve. And, hey, wouldn't you know there are twelve months in a year?!
